About the Author

Dr. Roberta Hughes Wright is the widow of Dr. Charles H. Wright, founder of the Charles. H. Wright Museum of African American History in Detroit, Michigan and is a member of three Museum Advisory Committees. As a member of the Michigan Support Group for Penn Center-St. Helena, South Carolina, she persuaded the South Carolina Historical Department and the U.S. Historical Commission to award and erect a plaque at the site of the reading of the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863. Dr, Wright was a member of the Bar of the District of Columbia and was admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court. A life member of the NAACP, she is a member of the Board of Directors of Detroit Memorial Park Association and on the Finance Committee for the three cemeteries.
